Alton is not boring.
We just saw last week where apparently United Technologies may want to build within Alton. The state, county and city appear to be backing their effort. It’s all very exciting for our city.
Tonight, the news is saying that Brock Development is acquiring space in Alton.
In a rich deal for a prominent property, the retail developer has paid $22.75 million for land along Donald Ross Road and hopes to build a 350,000-square-foot shopping center.
Brock Development Corp. of Palm Beach Gardens last week closed on the vacant parcel that’s part of the Briger tract. According to property records, Kolter Group paid $13.9 million for the 41-acre property in 2013.
In the latest deal, Kolter sold just 28 acres of the 41-acre retail site. Andrew Brock of Brock Development said he plans to buy the rest of the site later — and he acknowledged paying a premium that he said makes the property some of the priciest retail land in the county.
“It’s a great location,” Brock said Monday. “It’s the last major big-box retail location in the entire north county.”
Brock Development also built the Abacoa shopping center on Donald Ross road and it is about 92,000 square feet of space, so the new area in Alton will be 4 times larger!
Well now we know that the future residents of Alton, who move into their homes built by Kolter, can now walk to great shopping. And that was the concept of Alton life!!!
